Washington D.C.- Recently concluded, The 29th Convention of Association of Nepalese in America (ANA) has reported a net profit of $ 10,282.00.

Amidst speculations and various operational constraints, the 3-day mega event, which despite a low turnout than it had in previous years has turned out to be a highly successful event. Bringing Nepali Diaspora living in North America together with programs and events designed to cater every age and profession, the 29th ANA Convention has offered a common message to Nepalese across North America that unity is the strength and an instrumental force to increase our competitive position locally and globally.

According to a financial report prepared and submitted by the Finance Committee Coordinator, Mr. Laxman Pradhan, to the organizing committee for the ANA convention, total revenue of $ 95,112.00 was collected and total expenses of $ 84,830.00 was incurred during the three day event. A stringent convention registration procedure along with disciplined and conscientious spending management has contributed to favorable financial result, said Mr. Pradhan. Each participant was required for mandatory convention registration during the first two days, 1st and 2nd July while such fee was waived on the third day at the request of participants and also upon interim review of profit and loss statement. When especially two events- Grand Cultural Show and DJ Night scheduled for last day of the event were sold out by early afternoon, organizers were able to exercise some flexibility in waiving the registration fee. Also because various forums and events organized by different community organizations on the third day observed overwhelming participation, organizers of the convention were confident on the financial prospect of the event and hence were able to waive registration fee on the third day.

In addition to revenues generated from the registration fee, substantial amount was collected from cultural night and DJ night tickets sale, business stall rental, vendor booths, forum and sports registration, and fashion show among others. The organizers had to shuffle program schedules and modalities every day to ensure that the event doesn’t evolve out to be financially hurting. It is to be noted here that all individuals in the organizing committee had taken care of their expenses out of their pocket including registration and meals incurred during the course of event and maintained responsible spending throughout the event, informed Hemanta Shrestha, the chief coordinator of the convention. Saroj Khanal , coordinator for the cultural programs expressed his profound gratitude to those artists, audiences and all volunteers who contributed to make the event successful despite the gloomy reports on the media and elsewhere about the controversies and dilemmas about the legitimacy and future of the ANA. It is also mentioned here that the event organizers, who had promised to bear the losses, if any, personally will use the net proceeds from the event to community causes for the Nepali Diaspora.
