Foreign Minister Koirala Bi-lateral meeting at UN PDF Print E-mail

On the sidelines of the 64th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Hon. Foreign Minsiter Sujata Koirala had a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Peru, Jose Antonia Garcia Belaunde today morning. The matters relating to bilateral cooperation and mutual interest were discussed during the Meeting. Both Ministers exchanged views and experience on the constitution drafting process. 

Hon. Foreign Minister Koirala had also a bilateral meeting with the Foreign Minister of Maldives Mr. Ahmad Shaheed. Both Ministers laid emphasis on strengthening the bilateral relationship and increasing trade and tourism between Nepal and Maldives. They also discussed about the Nepalese workers working in Maldives and the students of Maldives who are studying in Nepal. They emphasized the need to work together to protect the common interests of both countries in the context of climate change as we have common concerns in this area. 

Likewise, Hon. Foreign Minister Koirala met Mr. Cheikh S Diara, High Representative for Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island States, at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. During the meeting, they discussed on the way to work for the efficient advocacy and stewardship of the interests of the Least Developed Countries in the days to come. The Foreign Minister expressed her concern over protecting the specific interests of the Least Developed Countries including trade and transit facilities. The High Representative assured of extending full cooperation in connection with the work for the Least Developed Countries and Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island States.

Hon. Foreign Minister Koirala had meeting with the High Representative for Disarmament Affairs. In a meeting with Mr. Sergio Duarte, the Foreign Minister reiterated Nepal’s constant belief in complete disarmament. They agreed to explore means and ways for the strengthening the role of the United Nations Regional Center for Peace and Disarmament for Asia and Pacific located in Kathmandu for building confidence in the region.  
Hon. Foreign Minister Koirala also held a separate meeting with Under-Secretary General for Peacekeeping Affairs Mr. Alain Leroy at the United Nations Headquarters in New York. In the meeting Hon. Foreign Minister Koirala pledged Nepal’s continued and enhanced participation in United Nations peacekeeping operation.  

Hon. Foreign Minister Koirala also met Executive Director of the UNICEF Ms. Ann Veneman. The Foreign Minister appreciated the assistance provided by the UNICEF office in Nepal to overall child development in Nepal and expected the continued cooperation in future to rehabilitate them in the society.
