Deadline to act: IMMEDIATELY

Dear WWF supporter,

In less than three weeks, representatives from 192 countries will gather in Copenhagen, Denmark, to negotiate a global response to the climate change crisis.  As President Obama said earlier this week, we can and must reach an agreement during this landmark summit.

For that to happen, the U.S. Senate must provide President Obama with the support and guidance he needs to ensure successful negotiations in Copenhagen.  A bipartisan approach to climate change is currently being crafted by Senators John Kerry (D-MA), Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Joe Lieberman (I-CT).  They need others in the Senate to join them so that they can announce the outlines of an agreement prior to Copenhagen.

You can help by taking action. Call your senators today at 1-800-217-7379 and urge them to support a bipartisan agreement on climate legislation in time for the Copenhagen negotiations.

Success in Copenhagen hinges on the U.S. Senate.  Without a clear signal from the Senate, President Obama will be gravely hampered in his ability to negotiate an international deal.

It is too late for the Senate to pass a climate bill before Copenhagen, but Senate action can still help enable a strong outcome in Copenhagen.  A clear statement by a broad group of senators that outlines the details of a bipartisan agreement will provide President Obama with the guidance and support he needs.

It is essential that the framework of this bipartisan agreement be released within the next three weeks.

Please, call your senators at 1-800-217-7379 and urge them to work with Senators Kerry, Graham and Lieberman on a strong statement before Copenhagen.

This is a critical moment for the future of our planet.  I hope you will take just a few short minutes to make the call to your senators.

Sincerely,

Ginette Hemley
