Miss Tamang 2009 Beauty Pageant

Kathmandu, Gorgeous and charming Upali Gyapak-Tamang of Lalitpur walked away with the title of 'Miss Tamang 2009' a cultural beauty pageant, organized by Nepal Tamang Art and Culture Center at Rastriya Naach Ghar, Jamal on Saturday.

The contest, organized with an objective to socialize the Tamang community's art, culture, language, costume, rites/rituals and religion in other community including own through young generation have brought twenty Tamang girls from various districts for the final competition.

After that, the introduction round was held where the participants introduced themselves in mother tongue with a quote or proverb they adhere to. Based on the introduction round, the participants were slashed down to 10. These top 10 contestants were then asked question individually from the judges which comprised of Singer Nima Rumba, Artist Yuvraj Lama, Bed Kumar Pradhan, Dhan Bahadur Tamang, Sova Gurung and B.B Lama. After this question- answer round, the name of the top 5 contestants were announced. Selina Moktan, Smithu Ghising, Upali Gyapak, Irina Thing and Helen Blon who made it to the top 5 were the finalists who were asked a common question by the judge. They were asked," if you win the title of Miss Tamang, what would you contribute for the Tamang community? " to which this 20 years old Bachelor 2nd year student Upali Gyapak's answer was good enough to impress the judges and eventually walked away with the title that carry the cash prize of Rs. 25,000. The first and second runner-up were awarded with Rs.15,000 and Rs, 10,000 respectively. Other titles for which the participants competed were also distributed at the event. Kritika Bomjan won the title Miss Friendship whereas Soniya Gole got Miss Best Smile title. Other titles-Miss Best Dress, Miss Photogenic and Miss Beautiful Hair went in the hand of Nilam Blon, Irina Theeng and Dolma Pakhrin respectively. Similarly, Smithu Ghising was awarded with Miss Discipline, Selina Moktan for Miss Personality, Miss Catwalk-Tara Moktan and Miss Talent- Upali Gyapak. Helen Blon succeed to hold the title of Viewer Choice. A splendid performance by various Tamang singers like Bijay Lama, Aavinash Ghising provided a full entertainment to the audience presented at the program. The event was made more interesting and exciting with a tremendous emceeing of media person Dinesh D.C. and event choreographer Prabha Amatya. This is the second time the event has taken place after the year 2006 when Jenisha Moktan was crowned 'Miss Tamang'. At the program, President of event organization, Milan Moktan provided token of love to all the supporting associations and organizations."
