The Right Honourable Prime Minister attended a Program organized by the Nepalese Community in New York this evening (September 25, 2009). The Prime Minister addressed the Nepalese Community. Please release the text of the speech.

Speaking on the occasion, the Hon. Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala highlighted the current status of Nepal’s peace process, and determination of the Government of Nepal to promulgate the new constitution within the stipulated time frame. She also shed light on various provisions of the newly enacted Non-Resident Nepalese Regulations 2066 that provide facilities to own properties and invest in Nepal including repatriation of profits on such investments.

Hon. Minister for Health Umakant  Chaudhary, Chief Political advisor to the Prime Minister Raghuji Pant, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister Rajan Bhattarai, Advisor to the Foreign Minister Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal, Permanent Representative to the United Nations Madhu Raman Acharya and Foreign Secretary Gyan Chandra Acharya were present on the occasion.

On the sidelines of the 64th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, the Right Honourable Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal had a meeting with the Prime Minister of Sri Lanka H.E. Ratnashree Vikramanayak in New York on 25th of September 2009. Matters relating to bilateral cooperation and mutual interest were discussed during the meeting.
 
The Rt. Honourable Prime Minister had a meeting with Ms. Navanethem Pillay, High Commissioner for Human Rights. They discussed Nepal’s peace process and human right situation in Nepal. Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala was also present on the occasion. 

The Prime Minister Nepal also had a meeting with Mr. Jacques Diouf, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).  

The Prime Minister Nepal attended the Luncheon with senior UN officials hosted by the Permanent Representative of Nepal Mr. Madhu Raman Acharya. Hon. Minister for Foreign Affairs Sujata Koirala, Chief Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Mr. Raghuji Pant, Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Prime Minister Mr. Rajan Bhattarai, Advisor to the Foreign Minister Dr. Chiranjibi Nepal and Foreign Secretary Mr. Gyan Chandra Acharya were present on the occasion.

Hon. Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala participated in a Breakfast Meeting on “Combating Violence Against Girls”, co-hosted by US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Foreign Minister of the Netherlands Maxime Varhagen and Foreign Minister of Brazil Celos Amorim.  

On the sidelines of the 64th session of the General Assembly of the United Nations, Hon. Foreign Minister Sujata Koirala had a meeting with External Affairs Minister of India S.M. Krishna in New York on 25th of September 2009. During the meeting the Hon. Minister apprised the Indian Minister of the current status of Nepal’s peace process, drafting a new constitution and the decision on the part of three major political parties to constitute a high level political mechanism to facilitate peace process and making of the new constitution within the stipulated time frame. The Indian External Affairs Minister appreciated progress in Nepal’s peace process and pledged India’s assistance in Nepal’s development endeavours.

Foreign Minister Koirala had a bilateral meeting with Mr. Reinhard Silberberg, Deputy Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs of Germany. They discussed the status of Nepal’s peace process, progress in drafting a new constitution, bilateral economic and technical cooperation and future cooperation in multilateral fora. Mr. Silberberg pledged continuous support from the Government of Germany to Nepal’s peace process and socio-economic development of Nepal.

Likewise, Foreign Minister Koirala had separate meetings with Mr. Michael Spindelegger, the Foreign Minister of Austria and Mr. Hakon Gulbrandsen, State Secretary for International Development of Norway. They discussed the status of Nepal’s peace process and constitution making and prospect of future bilateral cooperation.
