For Real Change: Roger Adhikari for ANA President

Dear ANA members,

I am offering myself as a Presidential candidate in the upcoming ANA election. My decision to contest the election came at the last minute after a careful consideration.

I believe, after twenty seven years in the business and well recognized brand name, Association of Nepalis in America (ANA) can and must do better as an organization.

As you know, Nepali population in US has grown from several thousand in early 80s, when ANA was created to about one hundred fifty thousand, today.

Such explosion of Nepali population has created a new need and opportunity for ANA to expand beyond its about five hundred or so paid membership and single event (July fourth convention) organizing entity to a more representative membership base organization with diverse programs and events.

That is only possible by creating an environment and attracting new breed of leaders, who have vision, intellect and ability to lead. However, instead of opening the door, the current ANA leadership has recently helped pass the bylaws which puts restriction on ANA members from running for the office without previous experience as a board member.

I believe the new restriction is not only against the democratic principal but also against ANAs interest, as it deprives the organization from qualified individuals.

I have been involved in non-profit organizations for over thirty years, including, some, I have founded and co-founded. Several of those organizations are still operational after thirty years in business. Those organizations have done very well without such restrictions.

ANA is at cross-road and its relevance in the future will be determined by its commitment to change and embrace new ideas.

Therefore, I am offering myself as a candidate for real change.

If elected, I will repeal the restriction by changing the bylaws and creating environment for more able Nepalis to lead ANA into the future. I will also introduce new ideas to make ANA attractive to the new quarters of the Nepali Diasporas and new strategy to enlarge ANA membership base.

Besides being active in Nepali community, I have also been a board of director for Airport advisory committee for City of Tracy, candidate for City council and published over several dozen articles in Nepali as well as in American newspaper. During my campaign in 2006, Tracy Press (local newspaper) has endorsed my economic idea by quoting Adhikari has a great mind for economic-development strategies.
